EXTREME
TIC-TAC-TOE

It’s Tic-Tac-Toe . . . but way more extreme because it’s also a relay race. Here’s how to make it happen.

HEAD, SHOULDERS, KNEES & CUP

This is a one-on-one game of reflexes with multiple rounds. Each round, half of your players will be eliminated until only two players remain.

SOUND
EFFECTS

This game is kind of like Reverse Charades, but with sound effects instead of movements.

SUPPLIES: 

  • Tape.
  • Three X’s and three O’s cut out of cardboard (for the vertical version).
  • Two teams of 3 – 6 students each.

INSTRUCTIONS: 

  • Create your tic-tac-toe board by taping off a 3X3 board on a wall.
  • Create two teams of around 3 – 6 students each and have them line up on either side of the room, across the room from the tic-tac-toe board.
  • Supply one team with 3 X’s and the other team with 3 O’s, with double-sided tape on the back of each.
  • When you say GO!, the first person for each team will race to the board, place their letter, run back to the line, tag the next person in the line, and get in the back of the line.
  • After all three pieces are placed on the board, the remaining players can each make one move at a time, moving one of their team’s pieces wherever they would like.
  • The first team to get three pieces in a row is the winner.

SUPPLIES: 

  • Lots of plastic cups.
  • All of your students.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Have all of your students pair off and stand throughout the room, facing each other.
  • Place a plastic cup on the floor in between each pair of students.
  • For each round, give a series of commands to your players: head, shoulders, knees, or cup. Players must touch whatever you call out. When you say CUP!, the first player to grab the cup from the ground advances to the next round.
  • Keep playing until all players but one are eliminated.

SUPPLIES:

  • A series of slides with one sound effect per slide.
  • EXAMPLES: phone call, siren, whale, monkey, helicopter.
  • All of your students.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Divide the room into two teams.
  • Choose two guessers and bring them onstage where they won’t be able to see your screen. If that’s not possible, you can also blindfold your guessers or write the sound effects on a white board in front of the guessers.
  • When you put a sound effect on the screen, the crowd will need to act out the sound effect using only their voices, while the guesser tries to guess the sound effect. No movements allowed!
  • Put one minute on the clock and get your first team in place. They’ll have one minute to guess as many sound effects as possible before the second team gets a turn. Add up their points, then let the second team play.
  • The team with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.
