Friends, I have a confession.
As a woman in ministry, I feel pretty guilty saying what I’m about to say. Like maybe it’s not allowed.
I hope we can still be friends afterward.
Are you ready?
Okay. Here goes.
I don’t like women’s events.
I know. I’m the worst.
Maybe it’s because I’m terrible at baking and don’t own any doilies.
Or because I like dinosaur movies more than chick flicks.
Or because I’m better at talking about Harry Potter than about my feelings.
Or because I’d rather play laser tag with middle schoolers than go to a dinner party with grown-ups.
Or maybe it’s simply because I’ve attended too many church events for “women” that didn’t really feel like events for me.
But that’s why I’m so excited to tell you about an event for women that finally does feel like an event for me. And no matter how many chick flicks you watched this weekend or how many doilies you own, if you’re a woman doing youth ministry, I think you’ll feel the same.
It’s the WOMEN IN YOUTH MINISTRY CAMPFERENCE.
It’s for women who love teenagers.
It’s for women who love one another.
And it’s for women who lead.
I’m going. I hope you’ll come too. And I can’t wait. Because sometimes…
1. I NEED A BREAK
Some days (okay, a lot of days) I work a little too much. And if you’re a woman in youth ministry, I know you do too. So WYMC, give me all the trees and lakes and sunshine and fresh air because as wonderful as youth ministry is… I just need a break sometimes.
2. I NEED PEOPLE
Sometimes I just need to be surrounded by people who get me. People who do what I do and love what I love. People I can laugh with and who I can learn from too.
3. I NEED INSPIRATION
As much as I’d love to tell you that I have infinite stores of energy and passion and ideas…I really don’t. That’s why I love spaces like the one that WYMC offers – a space where like-minded leaders can learn from each other, encourage each other, and share ideas. Because in ministry, we’re all better when we work together.
4. I NEED A REMINDER THAT I’M NOT ALONE
Ladies, let’s be honest. It’s not easy being a woman in youth ministry. It can be frustrating. It can be difficult. And it can be lonely. I need WYMC for a lot of reasons, but this might be the most significant reason. Because sometimes I just need to know that I’m not the only one feeling what I’m feeling or fighting the battles I’m fighting. Maybe you know what that’s like.
So, ladies. The Women in Youth Ministry Campference. Let’s go. Let’s hang out. Let’s be friends. Let’s learn together. Let’s encourage and inspire and teach each other something new.
See you in Indiana this March, okay?
